When the fitting is properly crimped a raised "N" witness mark is clearly visible on the press socket. That is the visual check an inspector or a foreman looks for on a walk. Pressing requires the matching Nibco Press System tool with the correct jaw or chain for the tube size.
5) What copper tube sizes does the Nibco PC633-4 press union come in?
Six sizes: 1/2, 3/4, 1, 1-1/4, 1-1/2 and 2 inch. Order by MPN, 9256800PC for 1/2 inch through 9256850PC for 2 inch. The press end sizes to copper tube and the male thread matches the nominal size.
6) Why use a press union instead of just a press coupling on a copper line?
A coupling is permanent, a union is not. The PC633-4 breaks apart at the nut, so you can pull a pump, a backflow preventer, a water heater, or a control valve out of the line without cutting the copper and re-pressing. Put one on each side of any component you expect to service. For a run you never plan to open, a plain press coupling is the cheaper and lower profile choice.
7) Can Nibco Press System fittings be buried underground?
Yes, the Press System fittings can be installed underground. The listed systems also include irrigation and automatic sprinkler service alongside commercial and residential plumbing, HVAC and heating.
8) Do I need a torch or solder to install the PC633-4?
No open flame is involved on the press side. The copper end is joined with a press tool rather than solder, which is why it gets used in occupied buildings and hot work permit areas. The male NPT end still needs thread sealant or tape and a wrench like any threaded joint.
