1) Can you take apart a Nibco PC633 press union after it's been pressed?
That's the whole point of a union. The PC633 presses onto copper tube at both ends (press by press), and the union nut in the middle lets you break the joint and pull a pump, valve, or section of pipe without cutting the line. The pressed ends themselves are permanent, so put the union where you'll want the disconnect, not where the tube happens to end.
2) Is the Nibco PC633 press union OK for potable water?
Yes. It's lead-free and certified to NSF/ANSI/CAN 61, third party certified to UPC, and to the performance requirements of CSA MSE 13 and PS-117. Body is ASTM B75 alloy C12200 copper and it's dezincification resistant, so it runs in residential and commercial potable systems as well as hot, chilled and process water.
3) What pressure and temperature can a Nibco press union handle?
200 psi CWP, with a temperature range of -20 F to 250 F. That covers domestic water, hydronic heating and chilled water loops. Above 250 F or on steam, this is the wrong fitting.
4) Should I use a press union or a solder union on a copper repipe?
Press wins where you can't get a flame in: occupied buildings, ceilings near sprinkler heads and combustibles, and wet lines you can't dry out. The PC633 presses cold with a tool and jaw, and a properly crimped joint shows the Nibco "N" witness mark so an inspector can see it took. Solder is still the cheaper route if you already own the torch and the line is drained and accessible. Either way you need the press tool and the correct jaw or chain for the size, which is separate from the fitting.
5) Can a Nibco press union be buried or run underground?
Yes, Nibco Press System fittings are approved for underground installation, which is unusual for a mechanical joint and makes the PC633 usable as a buried service disconnect. The copper body is dezincification resistant.
6) Will the Nibco PC633 work on a fire sprinkler or irrigation line?
Listed system uses include automatic sprinkler systems, irrigation, HVAC, heating, and both commercial and residential plumbing. Stay inside the 200 psi CWP and -20 F to 250 F limits and confirm the union suits your AHJ's sprinkler requirements for the specific system.
7) Does the Nibco PC633 press onto type L and type M copper tube?
It's a wrot copper press fitting sized to nominal copper tube, so it presses onto standard hard drawn copper water tube in the matching size. Tube must be cut square, deburred and marked for insertion depth before pressing, and the O-ring seals against the outside of the tube, so the tube surface has to be clean and unscored.
