1) What sizes does the Nibco PC600-RS press coupling come in?
The PC600-RS wrot copper press coupling is made in 2-1/2 inch and 3 inch copper tube sizes. The 2-1/2 inch is part number 9002655PC and the 3 inch is 9003055PC. Both are press x press, so each end takes seamless copper water tube of the matching size.
2) Does the PC600-RS coupling have a tube stop, or can I slide it along the pipe for a repair?
It has a stop. Nibco lists the PC600-RS as a straight size coupling with stop, meaning there is an internal shoulder that sets insertion depth on each end. That is what you want on a new run, but it will not slide fully onto one tube, so it is not the fitting for a slip repair where you need to bridge a cut with no movement in the pipe.
3) Is the Nibco PC600-RS coupling lead free and approved for drinking water?
Yes. The PC600-RS is a lead-free wrot copper coupling, third party certified to UPC and to the performance requirements of CSA MSE 13 and PS-117, and it complies with ASME B16.51 performance. Body material is ASTM B75 alloy C12200 copper, and it is dezincification resistant.
4) Will a Nibco press coupling join to copper pipe I already soldered, or does the whole run have to be press?
The coupling seals on the outside of the tube, so it goes onto any seamless copper water tube of the right size, including an existing soldered line, as long as the tube end is cut square, deburred, and clean. Both ends are press, so it cannot be soldered or threaded; to transition to a soldered or threaded system you need a press x solder or press x FIP fitting instead of this coupling.
5) What pressure and temperature can Nibco press copper couplings handle?
200 psi CWP, with a service range of -20 F to 250 F. That covers potable hot and cold water, chilled water, and hydronic heating loops within normal building operating conditions.
6) Can I use press copper couplings on an underground line?
Nibco states its Press System fittings can be installed underground, so a buried copper water service or irrigation line is within the intended use. Listed system uses also cover commercial and residential plumbing, heating, HVAC, irrigation, and automatic sprinkler systems.
7) Is this the right coupling for a commercial chilled water or HVAC riser?
It fits that use. Nibco lists the Press System for potable, hot, chilled and process water in both residential and commercial plumbing and HVAC, and the 2-1/2 and 3 inch sizes of the PC600-RS are typical riser and main sizes. Rated 200 psi CWP up to 250 F.
