1) What pipe sizes does the Nibco T-211-B bronze globe valve come in?
The T-211-B runs from 1/4 inch up through 3 inch: 1/4, 3/8, 1/2, 3/4, 1, 1-1/4, 1-1/2, 2, 2-1/2 and 3 inch. All of them are female NPT thread (FIPT) on both ends, so they thread straight onto threaded steel or brass pipe of the matching size without adapters.
2) Can I use a Nibco T-211-B globe valve on a steam line?
Yes. The T-211-B is rated 125 psi / 8.6 bar saturated steam to 366 F (178 C), and 200 psi / 13.8 bar non-shock cold working pressure. That covers typical low pressure building steam and condensate service as well as hot and cold water, HVAC, compressed air and gas utility lines.
3) Can a bronze globe valve like the Nibco T-211-B be used on potable drinking water?
No. Use of the T-211-B in U.S. drinking water applications has been prohibited since January 3, 2014. It is a bronze body with a bronze seat intended for commercial plumbing, heating and HVAC service, hot and cold water, steam, compressed air and gas. For potable lines you need a valve carrying a low-lead potable rating instead.
4) Will a Class 125 threaded bronze valve match my existing threaded steel piping?
It will. The T-211-B carries Class 125 threaded end connections with female NPT (FIPT) tapped ends, which is the standard commercial threaded valve class, so it makes up to any NPT male thread of the same nominal size on steel, brass or iron pipe. You need a union or a pair of nipples and couplings to get it out of the line later, since threaded ends alone do not allow removal without breaking the run.
5) Should I use a globe valve or a ball valve for throttling flow in a mechanical room?
Use the globe valve. The T-211-B has a multi-turn screw-in bonnet and an integral seat with a renewable bronze seat disc, so the disc lifts off the seat gradually and holds a partial-open position without chattering or wire-drawing the seat the way a quarter-turn ball valve does. A ball valve is the better pick when you only need full-open or full-shut isolation. Globe service is bi-directional here, so orientation of the body relative to flow is not a constraint on shutoff.
6) Can the Nibco T-211-B be rebuilt in place instead of replaced when it starts passing?
Yes, that is the point of the design. The seat disc is a renewable bronze disc and the bonnet screws in, so you back the bonnet out, pull the stem and disc, and fit a new disc rather than cutting the valve out of the line. The seat itself is integral to the bronze body, so it cannot be replaced separately, only the disc that bears against it.
7) Is the Nibco T-211-B dezincification resistant, and why does that matter on a hydronic loop?
Yes, the bronze used in the T-211-B is dezincification resistant. On closed hot water heating and chilled water loops, treated or aggressive water can leach zinc out of ordinary brass alloys and leave a porous, weakened body that eventually weeps or fails at the threads. A DZR bronze body holds up under that condition. The valve also conforms to MSS SP-80, the standard covering bronze gate, globe, angle and check valves.
8) Does the T-211-B need to be installed with the flow arrow in a particular direction?
No. Nibco lists this bronze globe valve for bi-directional service, so it will seat and hold against flow from either end. That is worth knowing on a reversing or dual-source loop where you cannot guarantee which way the water moves.
9) I need to standardize shutoff and throttling valves across a building. Does the T-211-B cover the whole range of branch sizes?
For threaded branch and runout work, yes. One part family covers 1/4 inch through 3 inch in ten sizes, all bronze body with bronze trim, all Class 125 female NPT, all rated 200 psi CWP and 125 psi saturated steam. That keeps one rebuild disc convention and one pressure class across the mechanical rooms. Above 3 inch or on welded or flanged mains you are into a different valve body style.
