Sta-Kon D75 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Can I use the Sta-Kon D75 on a 480V motor connection?
Yes. The D75 is rated 600 V, which covers 480 V three-phase motor leads and control circuits up to that limit. It's UL recognized under file E9809.
2) Is the D75 terminal insulated, and do I need to sleeve it after crimping?
It's a non-insulated ring terminal, bare copper with no nylon or vinyl sleeve. On a 600 V circuit you'll want to add your own heat shrink or tape over the barrel if the connection sits where it can be touched or where adjacent terminals could bridge. The upside of bare is you can inspect the crimp.
3) Is the D75 copper or aluminum, and can I put it on an aluminum conductor?
The barrel is copper, so it's intended for copper conductor only. Aluminum conductor needs a terminal marked AL or AL9CU with the right inhibitor compound; crimping aluminum into a copper-only barrel sets up a dissimilar metal joint that corrodes and loosens.
4) Why choose a ring terminal like the D75 instead of a fork or spade terminal?
A ring terminal is a closed barrel - the stud has to come all the way out before the wire can leave the connection. That's what you want on panel buses, motor terminal blocks, grounding studs, and anything that vibrates. A fork or spade slips off a loosened screw, which is why those are used where fast servicing matters more than security. The D75 is the closed-ring version for 8 AWG on a 1/2 inch stud.
5) What part number do I order for the 8 AWG, 1/2 inch stud non-insulated ring terminal?
Order Sta-Kon D75. That's the manufacturer part number as marked, no suffix or finish code to specify - a single bare copper configuration.
6) Is the Sta-Kon D75 made in the USA?
Country of origin on the D75 is the United States. That matters on federal, municipal, and transit work carrying Buy American or domestic-preference language, since terminations are often caught by those clauses along with the larger material.
