1) What wire sizes does the Sta-Kon A484 ring terminal accept?
The A484 is sized for 22-18 AWG stranded or solid copper conductor. Anything larger than 18 AWG will not seat in the barrel, and running 20 or 22 AWG through it is the intended range, so no doubling up of conductors to fill the barrel. For 16-14 AWG you need the next barrel size up in the Sta-Kon line.
2) Will the Sta-Kon A484 fit a #6 screw or stud?
Yes. The A484 is built with a No. 6 ring tongue, so it lands on a #6 screw or stud, typical of terminal blocks, small device terminals and ground screws. A #8 or #10 stud will not pass through the ring.
3) Is the A484 ring terminal UL listed for an inspected installation?
The A484 carries UL file E9809. That is the reference an inspector or a spec writer looks for when the drawing calls for a listed wire connector on 22-18 AWG copper.
4) Is the A484 insulated, and do I need to add heat shrink or sleeving?
It is a non-insulated terminal, bare copper with no nylon or vinyl sleeve. If the application needs strain relief or insulation at the termination, you add your own heat shrink or sleeving over the barrel after crimping, or choose an insulated Sta-Kon terminal in the same 22-18 AWG range instead.
5) What voltage is the Sta-Kon A484 terminal rated for?
600 V. That covers standard line-voltage control panels, motor control circuits, lighting controls and low-voltage work, so a single part number can be standardized across most building electrical terminations in the 22-18 AWG range.
6) Why choose a rectangular ring terminal over a fork or spade terminal?
A ring tongue is a closed loop, so it cannot slip off the stud if the screw backs out. That is why ring terminals are preferred on vibrating equipment, motor terminations and any connection that will not be serviced often. A fork or spade tongue is the choice when you need to pull the wire off without fully removing the screw, as on a crowded terminal strip. The A484 is the closed-ring version for a #6 stud on 22-18 AWG wire.
7) Can the Sta-Kon A484 be used on aluminum wire?
No. The A484 barrel is copper and the terminal is specified for copper conductors in the 22-18 AWG range. Aluminum conductor needs a connector marked AL or AL/CU for that service; using a copper-only terminal on aluminum risks a galvanic, high-resistance joint.
