Sta-Kon C26 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What wire size does the Sta-Kon C26 ring terminal take?
The C26 is sized for 12 to 10 AWG conductors. If you are terminating 14 or 16 AWG, this barrel is too large to crimp reliably, and anything heavier than 10 AWG will not enter the barrel. Stay within 12-10 AWG for a solid crimp.
2) Is the Sta-Kon C26 insulated, and does that matter for my application?
No insulation on this one, it is a bare copper ring terminal. That means you need to provide your own insulation where required, either heat shrink over the barrel or adequate spacing and a covered enclosure. Non-insulated terminals are common in panels, motor connection boxes, and ground terminations where a nylon or vinyl sleeve would get in the way or would not survive the heat.
3) Is this terminal UL listed for an inspected installation?
The C26 is covered under UL file E9809, which is what an inspector or a spec on an institutional job will want to see on the terminal. Rated 600 V.
4) Can I crimp the Sta-Kon C26 with a standard insulated-terminal tool?
Color-coded insulated crimpers are set up for insulated barrels and will not form a proper crimp on bare copper. Non-insulated terminals like the C26 need a die or nest sized for non-insulated 12-10 AWG barrels. Use the non-insulated station on your tool, not the red/blue/yellow insulated jaws.
5) Will the C26 work for bonding a ground conductor to an enclosure or busbar?
Yes, that is one of the common uses. A bare copper ring tongue on a No. 10 bolt is a standard way to land a 12 or 10 AWG equipment ground on a tapped enclosure hole or a ground bar. The ring tongue cannot vibrate off the stud the way a spade would, which is why ring terminals get specified for grounding and for anything subject to movement.
6) Should I use a ring terminal or a fork terminal on my terminal block?
Ring terminals like the C26 require you to remove the screw to install the wire, but once the screw is torqued the connection cannot back out. Fork or spade terminals slide in under a loosened screw, which is faster for service work but can slip out if the screw loosens. For vibration, grounding, and anything safety related, go with the ring; for panels you expect to re-terminate often, a fork saves time. The C26 is the No. 10 stud, 12-10 AWG ring version.
7) Is the Sta-Kon C26 made in the USA?
Country of origin is the United States. That matters on government, military, and publicly funded work where domestic sourcing language appears in the spec.
