Sta-Kon RG2-10 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What wire size does the Sta-Kon RG2-10 ring terminal take?
The RG2-10 is built for 2 AWG conductor, copper barrel. It is a single-size lug, so smaller wire like 4 or 6 AWG will not crimp reliably in it and you would need the terminal sized for that conductor instead.
2) What stud size does the Sta-Kon RG2-10 ring tongue fit?
It is a No. 10 stud ring, and it is a two-bolt (two-hole) tongue rather than a single hole. That matters on a busbar or terminal pad: you need two tapped No. 10 holes on the correct hole spacing, not one.
3) Is the Sta-Kon RG2-10 barrel copper or aluminum, and can I land aluminum wire in it?
The barrel is copper, so it is for copper conductor. Aluminum conductor needs a lug rated AL or AL9CU with the appropriate oxide inhibitor, which this one is not.
4) Can I use a 2 AWG nylon insulated ring terminal on a 480V panel?
The RG2-10 carries a 600 V rating, so it covers 120/208, 277/480 and similar building distribution circuits. The nylon insulation sleeve is part of that rating, so don't trim it back to gain barrel length.
5) Is the Sta-Kon RG2-10 ring terminal UL recognized?
It carries UL file E9809. For an inspector or an MRO spec that calls for listed terminations, that file number is what you cite.
6) Why is this 2 AWG ring terminal red when most red terminals are for small wire?
On small insulated terminals red usually means 22-16 AWG, but on the Sta-Kon heavy-gauge ring line the red nylon sleeve is just the color of the RG2-10 body. Go by the marked wire size, 2 AWG, not by the color code you use on 22-16 terminals.
7) Can I crimp the RG2-10 with standard hand pliers?
No. A 2 AWG copper barrel needs a heavy crimp tool with the correct die for that gauge, typically a hydraulic or ratcheting lug crimper. Standard insulated-terminal pliers sized for 22-10 AWG will not make a compliant crimp on this lug.
8) Will a two-hole lug give me better connection than a single-hole ring on a ground bar?
A two-bolt tongue like the RG2-10 resists rotation on the pad, which is why it gets specified for grounding and for feeder terminations where a single bolt could let the lug spin under torque. The tradeoff is that the landing pad must already be drilled and tapped for two No. 10 screws at matching centers; if your pad has one hole, you need a single-hole ring instead.
9) What is the exact part number and origin for the Sta-Kon 2 AWG two-hole red ring terminal?
Order it as Sta-Kon RG2-10. Country of origin is Mexico. Distributors cross-referencing a line card should match on that MPN rather than the description, since the Sta-Kon ring range uses closely spaced numbers for different wire sizes and stud sizes.
