Sta-Kon C72 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Is the C72 terminal copper or aluminum, and can I use it on aluminum wire?
The C72 barrel is copper. It is a copper-only terminal, so use it on copper conductors. Aluminum feeders require a terminal marked AL or AL9CU with the correct inhibitor compound; putting bare copper on aluminum wire sets up a dissimilar metal joint that loosens and heats over time.
2) Is this ring terminal insulated, and does that matter for my panel?
It is a non-insulated ring terminal, bare metal with no nylon or vinyl sleeve. That means the crimp barrel and any exposed strands stay live, so you need heat shrink or tape over the barrel where terminals sit close together inside a control cabinet or junction box. Where you want the insulation built in, choose an insulated ring terminal in the same 12-10 AWG range.
3) Is the Sta-Kon C72 made in the USA for government or institutional specs?
Country of origin on the C72 ring terminal is the United States, which is what procurement officers on federal, education, and healthcare jobs usually need documented for domestic sourcing requirements.
