1) What wire size does the Sta-Kon H973 ring terminal take?
The H973 is sized for 1 AWG through 1/0 conductors. If you are terminating 2 AWG or smaller, or 2/0 and up, this is the wrong barrel size and the crimp will not hold properly.
2) Is the Sta-Kon H973 UL listed?
It carries UL file E9809. That is the reference an inspector or spec writer will want when the termination has to be documented on a commercial or institutional job.
3) Is the H973 copper or aluminum, and can I use it on aluminum conductors?
The barrel is copper, so it is intended for copper conductors. Aluminum feeders need a lug rated AL or AL/CU; a copper-only terminal on aluminum wire is a dissimilar metal connection and is not an acceptable substitute.
4) Is the Sta-Kon H973 terminal insulated?
No. It is a non-insulated tubular ring terminal, bare copper with a metallic finish. If the connection needs covering, you supply your own heat shrink or boot over the barrel after crimping.
5) What voltage is the H973 Sta-Kon ring terminal rated for?
600 V. That covers standard commercial branch circuits, panel and switchgear lug work, and control cabinets up to 600 volts.
6) Do I need a special crimp tool for a 1/0 non-insulated ring terminal like the H973?
Yes. A tubular non-insulated barrel in the 1 AWG to 1/0 range is crimped with a heavy hydraulic or large mechanical lug crimper using the die matched to that conductor size, not the small hand tool used for insulated 22-10 AWG terminals. The tool and dies are not included with the terminal.
7) Where is the Sta-Kon H973 terminal made?
