1) Is the F10721 terminal insulated, and do I need to sleeve it after crimping?
It's a non-insulated tubular ring terminal, so there is no factory sleeve over the barrel. On a 600 V circuit you handle the insulation yourself, typically heat shrink over the barrel and the conductor insulation, or the terminal lands inside an enclosure where the connection is guarded. If you want the insulation built in, order an insulated ring terminal instead.
2) Is the Sta-Kon F10721 copper or aluminum, and can I put it on aluminum conductor?
The barrel is copper, so it is intended for copper conductor. Aluminum feeders need an aluminum or AL9CU dual-rated lug with the right inhibitor compound, not a copper-only terminal. Mixing copper lugs on aluminum conductor is where the corrosion and heat problems start.
3) What is the voltage rating on this 4 AWG ring terminal?
Rated 600 V, which covers standard commercial branch circuits, panel and motor terminations, and control gear. It is also UL recognized under file E9809.
4) Do I need a special crimp tool for a 4 AWG non-insulated tubular terminal?
Yes. A 4 AWG tubular barrel is well past hand-plier range for insulated terminals, so it takes a heavy crimper with the correct non-insulated die for 4 AWG copper, hydraulic or a long-handle mechanical tool. Nest the barrel in the matching die cavity, not an insulated-terminal nest, or the crimp geometry is wrong.
5) Should I use a ring terminal or a fork terminal for a 5/16 stud connection?
A ring like the F10721 goes fully over the stud, so it cannot back off the screw if the nut loosens. A fork or spade slides out sideways, which is faster to service but not what you want on vibration-prone or life-safety gear. For a 5/16 stud carrying 4 AWG, the ring is the standard choice; use a fork only where you need quick disconnect and the connection is protected.
