Sta-Kon F72 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Can I use the F72 ring terminal on a 480V panel feeder?
The F72 carries a 600 V rating, which covers 120/208, 277/480 and 600 V work. On a 480 V feeder the terminal itself is rated for it, but because the lug is non-insulated you are responsible for maintaining the required clearance or adding insulation at the termination.
2) Is the F72 ring terminal copper or aluminum?
Copper, with a bare metallic finish. That makes it a match for copper conductors. If you are terminating aluminum cable you need a lug rated AL or AL9CU instead, copper-only lugs on aluminum is a dissimilar-metal connection and not acceptable.
3) Is the Sta-Kon F72 terminal insulated?
No. The F72 is a non-insulated ring terminal, bare metal barrel with no nylon or vinyl sleeve. If you need the connection covered, you add heat shrink or tape yourself, or choose an insulated ring terminal instead.
4) Is the Sta-Kon F72 a UL listed terminal, and where is it made?
The F72 is covered under UL file E9809 and is made in the United States. That file reference is what an inspector or a submittal package will want to see for a listed termination.
5) Do I need a special crimp tool for a 4 AWG ring terminal?
Yes. At 4 AWG the F72 barrel is well past what a hand-squeeze tool for 22 to 10 AWG will do, you need a heavy-duty crimper with the matching die for 4 AWG non-insulated lugs, typically a hydraulic or long-handle ratchet crimper. No tool is supplied with the terminal.
