1) What wire size does the Sta-Kon F72U ring terminal take?
The F72U is built for 4 AWG conductor. It is a one-size barrel, so smaller wire like 6 or 8 AWG will not crimp reliably in it and larger wire won't enter the barrel. Match the terminal to the actual conductor gauge, not the insulation OD.
2) Can I use the F72U on aluminum conductor?
No. The F72U is a copper terminal and is rated for copper conductor only. Aluminum needs an AL/CU dual-rated or aluminum-bodied lug with the proper inhibitor compound, otherwise you get galvanic corrosion at the crimp.
3) Why would I use a 90 degree ring terminal instead of a straight one?
The right-angle tongue turns the conductor 90 degrees to the stud, which is what you want when the wire runs parallel to a panel wall or bus bar and you don't have the bending radius to turn 4 AWG copper by hand. In tight gutters and enclosure corners it keeps the crimp barrel off the sidewall. If the wire approaches the stud head-on, use a straight ring tongue instead.
4) Is the F72U terminal insulated, and does that matter for my install?
It is non-insulated, bare copper with no sleeve. That means the crimp barrel is exposed, so if the terminal sits near other energized parts you need to add heat shrink or tape after crimping, or keep the clearance. The upside is that a bare barrel takes an inspection pull test and lets you see the conductor seated in the barrel.
5) Are these ring terminals made in the USA for Buy American jobs?
