1) What wire size does the Sta-Kon K975UF ring terminal take?
The K975UF is sized for 2/0 AN through 3/0 conductor. It is a tubular barrel lug, so the stripped conductor seats fully into the barrel before crimping. Running it on a smaller conductor than 2/0 leaves the strands loose in the barrel and the crimp will not hold.
2) Can I use this lug on aluminum conductor?
No. The K975UF is a copper terminal and should be used on copper conductor. Aluminum conductor needs an AL or AL9CU rated connector with the correct compound, and putting bare copper on aluminum invites galvanic corrosion at the joint.
3) Why would I pick a 45 degree lug instead of a straight one?
The 45 degree bend between barrel and tongue lets the conductor approach the stud off-axis, which is how you get a large 2/0 or 3/0 cable into a crowded panel, switchgear, or motor termination box without kinking it or fighting the bend radius. A straight terminal needs the cable coming in roughly in line with the stud face.
