Sta-Kon G975NP – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What wire size does the Sta-Kon G975NP ring terminal take?
The G975NP is sized for 2 AWG conductor. It's a tubular (non-insulated) ring terminal, so the barrel is crimped directly onto the stripped 2 AWG wire with no insulation sleeve to strip back or shrink over.
2) Is the Sta-Kon G975NP terminal copper or aluminum, and can I use it on aluminum conductor?
It's copper. That makes it a copper-only terminal, intended for 2 AWG copper conductor. For aluminum or copper-clad aluminum feeders you need a lug marked AL9CU or AL7CU dual-rated, not a plain copper tubular terminal.
3) Do I need a special crimp tool for a 2 AWG non-insulated tubular ring terminal?
Yes. A 2 AWG tubular barrel is a heavy-duty crimp, well past what a handheld insulated-terminal plier will do. You need a hydraulic or mechanical lug crimper with a die matched to the 2 AWG barrel. The tool and die are not supplied with the G975NP terminal.
4) Non-insulated ring terminal or an insulated one, which should I use on a 2 AWG battery or panel connection?
Go non-insulated like the G975NP when you plan to cover the joint yourself, with adhesive-lined heat shrink or a boot, or when the terminal sits inside an enclosure where no sleeve is wanted. Choose an insulated version when you need the dielectric covering built in and want a one-step termination. Electrically they land the same on a 1/2 inch stud; the difference is who supplies the covering.
5) Is a ring terminal better than a fork terminal for a 2 AWG ground or bus connection?
For anything carrying real current or subject to vibration, the closed ring is what you want. A fork or spade can back off a loosening screw; the ring on the G975NP cannot leave the 1/2 inch stud until the nut comes off. Fork terminals only make sense where you need to drop the lug off a captive screw without removing it.
