Sta-Kon E75 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Is the Sta-Kon E75 copper or aluminum, and can I put it on aluminum conductor?
The E75 barrel is copper. It's a copper-only terminal, so use it on copper conductor. Aluminum conductor needs a connector marked AL or AL9CU along with the proper inhibitor compound, because a bare copper barrel on aluminum wire sets up galvanic corrosion at the crimp.
2) Is the Sta-Kon E75 terminal insulated, and do I need to sleeve it after crimping?
It's a non-insulated ring terminal, so there is no nylon or vinyl barrel on it. The crimped barrel and any exposed strand are left bare, which is why electricians normally finish these with heat shrink or tape where the termination sits in a panel or enclosure and could be touched or arc to an adjacent bus. In a lug compartment on a dedicated stud, bare is common practice.
3) What voltage can a Sta-Kon E75 ring terminal be used at?
Rated 600 V, which covers standard commercial and industrial branch circuit and control panel work up to 600 volt class. It carries UL file E9809. For medium voltage terminations this is not the right connector.
4) Do I need a special crimp tool for the Sta-Kon E75, or will pliers work?
A 6 AWG non-insulated ring terminal has to be compressed with a crimp die sized for 6 AWG non-insulated barrels, typically a ratcheting or hydraulic crimper. Pliers or an insulated-terminal plier nest will not develop the compression the barrel needs, and the UL listing on the terminal only applies to a properly made crimp. The E75 ships as the terminal only, no tool.
5) Ring terminal or fork/spade terminal for a 1/2 inch stud on a 6 AWG feeder?
Use the ring, which is what the E75 is. A closed ring has to be slipped over the stud but it cannot vibrate off if the nut backs off slightly, which is why it's the standard choice for motor terminal boxes, bus studs, and grounding connections. A fork or spade is only worth it where you need to drop the wire in without pulling the nut all the way off, like crowded terminal strips on service work.
6) Is the Sta-Kon E75 made in the USA?
Country of origin on the E75 ring terminal is the United States, which matters if you are filling a government, institutional, or federally funded job with domestic sourcing language in the spec.
