1) What wire gauge range does the Sta-Kon AB52 flag terminal accept?
The AB52 flag terminal crimps onto 22 to 14 AWG conductors, so one part covers everything from small control and thermostat wire up through standard 14 AWG branch-circuit conductors. If your conductor is 12 AWG or larger, this is the wrong barrel size.
2) Is the Sta-Kon AB52 insulated?
No. The AB52 is a non-insulated (bare metal) flag terminal, so the crimped barrel is exposed. If the termination sits in a crowded enclosure or near other live parts, plan on heat shrink or sleeving over the barrel, or choose an insulated flag terminal instead.
3) Why use a flag terminal instead of a standard ring or spade terminal?
On a flag terminal the tongue comes off the side of the barrel at a right angle rather than straight out the end, so the wire runs parallel to the terminal strip instead of standing off it. That is what you want in shallow enclosures, tight panel gutters, or stacked terminal blocks where a straight ring terminal would bend the conductor hard or not fit the cover. Electrically it does the same job as a ring or spade of the same 22-14 AWG range.
4) Is the Sta-Kon AB52 UL listed?
It carries UL file E9809. For an MRO or institutional spec that calls for listed terminations, cite that file number against the AB52.
5) What material is the AB52 flag terminal made from, and can I use it on aluminum conductors?
The body is copper, bare and unplated in a metallic finish. That makes it a copper-only connector. Do not crimp it onto aluminum conductors, which need a connector rated AL or CU/AL with the appropriate inhibitor.
6) Do I need a special crimper for the Sta-Kon AB52?
It is a crimp-on barrel with no insulation grip, so it goes down with a non-insulated terminal crimper die matched to the 22-14 AWG range. An insulated-terminal crimper with color-coded nests will not form the barrel correctly on a bare terminal. The terminal itself ships loose with no hardware; the stud or No. 8 screw comes from the device you are landing on.
