Sta-Kon B134 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What wire sizes does the Sta-Kon B134 ring terminal accept?
The B134 is sized for 18 to 14 AWG stranded copper wire. If your conductor is 12 AWG or larger, this barrel won't crimp down on it properly and you need the next size up in the Sta-Kon range.
2) What stud or screw size does the B134 ring fit?
The ring tongue on the B134 is drilled for a No. 8 stud or screw. It goes over the post and the nut or screw head captures it, so unlike a fork terminal it can't vibrate loose off the terminal block.
3) Is the Sta-Kon B134 insulated, and do I need to add anything over it?
It's a non-insulated terminal, bare copper with no nylon or vinyl sleeve. On any 600 V circuit where the crimp could be touched or could contact an adjacent terminal, plan on heat shrink or an insulating cap over the barrel, or use an insulated terminal instead.
4) Can I use a No. 8 ring terminal on a 600 volt control circuit?
The B134 carries a 600 V rating, which covers typical motor control, panel, and lighting circuit wiring. It is UL recognized under file E9809.
5) Ring terminal or fork terminal for a panel terminal block?
Use a ring like the B134 wherever the connection sees vibration or where code or spec calls for a captive connection, because the stud has to be fully removed to get the wire off. A fork or spade is quicker to service since it slides out under a loosened screw. Both land on the same No. 8 hardware; the B134 is the ring version for 18-14 AWG.
6) Can the B134 be crimped with ordinary pliers?
No. A bare copper barrel this size needs a proper ratcheting or die crimp tool matched to 18-14 AWG non-insulated terminals. Pliers deform the barrel without compacting the strands, and the joint loosens under load and vibration.
7) Can I use the B134 on aluminum wire?
No. It's a copper terminal intended for copper conductors. Aluminum requires a terminal rated AL or AL/CU with the appropriate inhibitor compound.
8) Is the Sta-Kon B134 terminal made in the USA?
Country of origin on the B134 is the United States, which matters if you are working a government or institutional job with domestic sourcing requirements.
