1) Is the Sta-Kon D10361 insulated, and do I need heat shrink or tape over it?
It's a non-insulated terminal, bare copper barrel and tongue. Nothing on the lug isolates the conductor, so in any enclosure where the connection could be touched or could contact an adjacent live part or grounded metal you add the insulation yourself, typically adhesive-lined heat shrink over the barrel or a nylon insulating cap. If you'd rather not add that step, use an insulated 8 AWG ring terminal instead.
2) Can I use the Sta-Kon D10361 on a 480V motor connection?
Yes. The D10361 carries a 600 V rating, which covers 120/208, 277, and 480 V circuits. It's also UL recognized under file E9809. The rating applies to the terminal itself, so the insulation system you put over the bare barrel and the conductor insulation still have to be rated for the circuit.
3) Can I crimp a Sta-Kon ring terminal with pliers or a generic crimper?
No. The D10361 is a copper barrel lug that needs a proper die crimp sized for 8 AWG. Pliers deform the barrel without compressing the strands uniformly, and the joint heats up and backs out under vibration. Use a ratcheting or hydraulic crimp tool with the die that matches 8 AWG non-insulated terminals. Soldering instead of crimping is not a substitute on a power connection.
4) Can I put an 8 AWG aluminum conductor in this terminal?
No. The D10361 barrel is copper and is intended for copper conductors only. Aluminum in a copper-only lug sets up galvanic corrosion and the joint loosens as the aluminum creeps. For aluminum feeders you need a lug marked AL or AL9CU with the appropriate inhibitor compound.
5) Should I use a ring terminal or a fork terminal for an 8 AWG connection to a terminal block?
A ring terminal like the D10361 has to come off the stud entirely to be removed, which is exactly why it's preferred on motor leads, grounding studs, and anything that vibrates: the screw can back off and the connection still can't fall away. A fork or spade slides out sideways without fully removing the screw, which is faster for service work but is not what you want on a vibrating or safety-critical connection. At 8 AWG you are usually on a power or ground connection, so the ring is the right call.
6) Is the Sta-Kon D10361 acceptable for an equipment grounding conductor termination?
It works as a ground lug for 8 AWG copper onto a No. 10 grounding screw or stud, and it's UL recognized under file E9809. Since the terminal is bare, no insulation is needed on a ground, which is one place a non-insulated lug is the simpler choice. Make sure the ground screw itself is a #10 and the mounting surface is clean bare metal.
