There are four relay outputs. One SPDT relay is rated 2 amps and there are three 1 amp SPDT access relays, so the keypad can drive a main door strike or maglock plus three additional switched outputs, such as a second opening, a gate operator, or an auxiliary function like a light or shunt. Since the relays are SPDT (single pole double throw), each one gives you both a normally open and a normally closed contact, which is what you need for a fail secure strike on one door and a fail safe maglock on another.

Code entry only. The Nortek Control surface mount unit is a keypad only reader, so every user is granted access by a PIN, with no card, fob, or credential reading. If you need badge credentials on the opening, this is the wrong unit and you want a prox or multi technology reader instead.

The keypad holds 120 users, meaning 120 separate codes. For a small to mid size multi family building, a contractor yard, or a tenant amenity door, that is one code per unit or per employee with room to spare. For a facility that needs individual codes for several hundred people, or that needs audit trail and central management across a campus, you are past what a standalone keypad covers and into a networked access control system.

The keys are metal alpha-numeric keys with Braille, so a visually impaired user can locate the digits by touch. That matters for anyone specifying entry hardware for housing, healthcare, or a government facility where accessible operation is part of the scope.

For an exposed entrance, an unprotected gate, or any opening that takes abuse, the metal option is what survives. This Nortek Control unit uses a brushed metal housing with durable metal keys and a vandal resistant surface mount design, rather than a plastic bezel and rubber buttons. Surface mount also means it goes on the face of the wall, jamb, or gate post with no back box cut into the surface, which is often the only way to mount on a stone, block, or metal frame.
