Norton Rixson 7970SLD – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Norton Rixson 7970SLD slider fit any door closer, or only the 7970 Series?
Only the 7970 Series. The 7970SLD is an OEM slider made specifically for Norton Rixson 7970 Series door closers, so if the closer body on your opening is a different Norton or Rixson series, this slider is not the part for it. Check the model stamped on the closer body or cover before ordering.
2) What exactly is the 7970SLD, a whole closer or just a component?
It is a single component, not a complete closer. The 7970SLD is the slider that rides in the track of a 7970 Series closer arm assembly. You are buying a replacement part to repair an existing installation, not a new closer unit.
3) My 7970 closer is dragging or the arm binds in the track. Can I replace just the slider instead of the whole closer?
Yes, that is what this part is for. Swapping a worn slider restores the 7970 Series closer's original operation without pulling and replacing the entire unit, which keeps the door in service and avoids re-prepping the frame or door. If the closer body itself is leaking fluid or has lost hydraulic control, the slider will not fix that.
4) Is the 7970SLD a genuine Norton Rixson part or an aftermarket copy?
Genuine OEM. The 7970SLD is an authentic Norton Rixson component built to the same commercial-grade standards as the original slider supplied with the 7970 Series closer, so the fit in the track and the arm geometry match the factory part.
5) Is this slider rated for commercial traffic or is it a light-duty residential part?
Commercial. The 7970SLD is a commercial-duty door closer part, used in office buildings, schools, healthcare facilities, retail, warehouses, multi-tenant residential and government buildings. For a facility standardizing on 7970 Series closers, it is a sensible item to keep on the shelf as an MRO spare.
