OATEY 33468 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Oatey 33468 end cap hold a hydrostatic test on a 1-1/2 inch PVC DWV riser?
That's exactly what it's built for. The Oatey 33468 End-Cap will hold a hydrostatic pressure test up to 15 PSI, or 40 feet of head pressure, on 1-1/2 inch PVC. It solvent welds into the inside end of the pipe, and the deep body gives extra sealing surface for the test.
2) Does the Oatey 33468 cap glue inside the pipe or over the outside?
Inside. The 33468 is a solvent weld plug style cap that goes into the inside end of the 1-1/2 inch pipe, not over the outside diameter. So you need a clean, deburred pipe end and PVC primer and cement to set it. If your pipe end is belled or damaged, cut it back before you glue.
3) What size pipe does the Oatey 33468 End-Cap fit?
It fits 1-1/2 inch PVC pipe only, and that is the single size the 33468 model is made in. For 2 inch or 3 inch test caps you need a different Oatey part number.
4) Is the Oatey 33468 a permanent cap or a temporary test cap?
It's a solvent welded cap, so once it's cemented it is a permanent joint. Plumbers commonly use this style to cap a stub-out or close off a 1-1/2 inch branch during a pressure test, then cut the pipe back below the cap when the line is opened up. There is no removable or threaded feature on it.
5) What material is the Oatey 33468 end cap, and will it match my white PVC DWV system?
It's white PVC, so it matches standard white PVC DWV pipe and fittings and takes the same PVC primer and cement. It is not made for ABS (black) pipe, which needs ABS cement and an ABS fitting.
