1) Does the Oatey 33474 4 in. End-Cap glue inside the pipe or over the outside?
It solvent welds into the inside end of the pipe, not over the hub. So you are cementing to the pipe's inner wall on a 4 in. PVC line. That matters if you were planning to cap over a bell or a fitting socket, because this one seats internally instead.
2) Will a 4 in. PVC end cap hold for a DWV hydrostatic test?
Yes. The Oatey 33474 will hold a hydrostatic pressure test up to 15 PSI, or 40 feet of head pressure, which covers a standard plumbing rough-in water test on a 4 in. stack. It is a test and closure cap, not a pressure-pipe fitting, so do not treat that 15 PSI as a working pressure rating for a supply line.
3) Is the Oatey 33474 a knock-out or test cap you break out later, or a permanent cap?
It is a solvent-welded PVC cap that bonds into the pipe end. Once the cement sets it is permanent, so plan on cutting the pipe back if the line needs to be reopened after testing. There is no knock-out center on it.
4) Does the Oatey 4 in. End-Cap come in other pipe sizes?
The 33474 is the 4-inch diameter version only. For a 2 in. or 3 in. stack you need the matching size in the End-Cap range instead; a 4 in. cap will not solvent weld into smaller pipe.
5) Why does Oatey call the 33474 a deep-design cap?
The cap body runs deeper into the pipe than a shallow plug, which gives more bonded surface between the cap wall and the pipe wall. More glue area means more sealing strength on a pressure test, and it's the reason this style is used where a shallow push plug would blow out.
