1) Will the Oatey 33470 end cap hold pressure for a DWV hydrostatic test?
Yes. The Oatey 2 inch End-Cap holds a hydrostatic pressure test up to 15 PSI, which equates to 40 feet of head pressure. That covers a standard DWV rough-in test on a 2 inch line. It is a test cap, not a permanent pressure fitting, so it comes off once the inspection passes.
2) Does this Oatey cap glue on or push on?
It solvent welds. The Oatey 33470 End-Cap is designed to solvent weld into the inside end of the pipe, so you need PVC primer and cement to set it. There is no gasket and no clamp, so plan on cutting it off rather than pulling it when the test is done.
3) Is the Oatey 33470 an inside or outside fit on 2 inch pipe?
Inside. It seats within the end of 2 inch PVC pipe rather than slipping over the outside like a socket cap, so the pipe ID is what matters for fit, not the OD. The design runs deep, which is what gives it the extra sealing surface for a pressure test.
4) Can I use this PVC end cap on ABS or cast iron pipe?
No. This is a PVC-bodied cap that relies on a solvent weld, and PVC cement will not bond it to ABS or cast iron. Use it on 2 inch PVC only; for other pipe materials you need a mechanical test plug or a cap matched to that material.
