1) Will the Oatey 33472 end cap hold a DWV pressure test?
The 33472 PVC End-Cap is built for testing. It will hold a hydrostatic pressure test up to 15 PSI, or 40 feet of head pressure. The deep cup design is what gives it the extra sealing surface on the solvent weld, so it stays put while the system is under test.
2) Does the Oatey 3 in. End-Cap glue inside the pipe or over the outside?
It solvent welds into the inside end of the pipe, not over the hub. So you need 3 inch PVC pipe with a clean, deburred inside end. If you are trying to cap a fitting hub or a socket, this is not the part for that.
3) Is the Oatey End-Cap a permanent cap or does it come off after testing?
It is solvent welded on, so it is a permanent bond. Crews typically install it below the point where the line will later be cut, then saw the capped end off once the test passes and tie into the rest of the system.
4) Can I use a test cap like this in place of a regular PVC pipe cap on a finished drain line?
Different jobs. The Oatey End-Cap is a rough-in and test-stage cap that glues into the pipe end and is rated to 15 PSI hydrostatic. A standard socket-type PVC cap slips over the outside of the pipe and is what you want for a permanent capped stub on a finished line.
5) How heavy is the Oatey 3 in. End-Cap for shipping or a bulk order?
