1) Will the Oatey 42077 No-Calk shower drain connect to 2 inch Schedule 40 ABS DWV pipe without caulking?
Yes. The Oatey 101 PNC No-Calk drain seals to 2 inch Schedule 40 DWV pipe with a mechanically compressed gasket, so there is no lead or caulk work at the joint. The drain body itself seals to the shower base with a fiber and rubber washer.
2) Can I use this Oatey shower drain on 1-1/2 inch pipe or on copper DWV?
Yes, with a gasket change. The 101 PNC body accepts 1-1/2 inch Schedule 40 DWV pipe and 1-1/2 inch or 2 inch copper DWV pipe when the caulking gasket is replaced. As supplied it is set up for 2 inch Schedule 40 plastic DWV.
3) Can this drain be installed after the shower base is set, or does it have to be done from below?
It tightens from above. The drain is fixed to the drain pipe from the top side of the shower base, which is why it suits slab construction where there is no access underneath. A drain tightening wrench is included.
4) Will the Oatey 101 PNC drain work with a preformed fiberglass or acrylic shower pan?
Yes. The 101 PNC is designed for use with all preformed shower stall bases. The fiber and rubber washer compresses against the pan to make the seal, so you do not need a separate caulked joint at the base.
5) Do I need any extra tools or parts to install the Oatey 42077?
The kit includes the drain tightening wrench, the compression gasket and the fiber/rubber base washer, plus the plastic strainer. What you supply is the DWV pipe itself, and a replacement gasket only if you are connecting to 1-1/2 inch plastic or to copper instead of 2 inch Schedule 40.
6) Is the Oatey 42077 body plastic or metal, and does that matter for a slab pour?
The body is ABS plastic, which pairs directly with ABS DWV pipe and will not corrode in a slab. It is the same No-Calk 101 design used for slab-on-grade shower installs where the joint has to be made from above.
