1) What size pipe does the Oatey 42084 No-Calk shower drain connect to?
The Oatey 42084 attaches over 2 inch ABS DWV pipe. It's a mechanical connection with a compression gasket, so there's no caulking and no solvent weld needed at the pipe joint. If your riser is 2 inch PVC rather than ABS, this is not the body to use.
2) Can I use this Oatey drain in a poured slab?
Yes, slab construction is exactly what the 101 PNC No-Calk body is meant for. The strainer snaps onto the drain body after the pour, so the drain top stays clear while the concrete goes in and you set the grate at the end.
3) Will this work with a preformed fiberglass or acrylic shower base?
It is built for preformed shower stall bases. The friction gasket seals against the base opening to give a watertight joint around the drain without caulk.
4) Can I swap the stainless grate for a brushed nickel or bronze one later?
Yes. The drain top accepts any Oatey 4-1/4 inch Universal Snap-Tite strainer, which come in a range of designer finishes. Those are sold separately from the 42084, which ships with the stainless version. Useful if you're standardizing grate finishes across units but want one drain body on every shower.
5) Does the Oatey 42084 come with a strainer, or do I buy that separately?
A universal 4-1/4 inch round snap-tite stainless steel strainer is included, along with a drain cover to keep debris out while the job finishes up. Nothing extra to order to make the drain functional.
6) Do I need to solvent cement or caulk anything to install the 42084?
No caulking at the pipe. The body clamps mechanically over 2 inch ABS DWV pipe using the compression gasket, and the strainer snaps on afterward. That makes it a practical repair option when you're working in a finished stall and can't get a torch or a long cement joint into the space.
