1) Will the Oatey 42080 No-Calk shower drain connect to 2 inch Schedule 40 PVC DWV pipe without caulking?
Yes. The 42080 No-Calk drain seals to 2 inch Schedule 40 DWV pipe with a mechanically compressed gasket, so no caulking or lead is needed. The gasket is tightened from above the shower base, which is why this style works on slab construction where you have no access underneath.
2) Can I use this Oatey No-Calk drain on 1-1/2 inch pipe or on copper DWV?
Yes, with a gasket change. The 42080 will take 1-1/2 inch Schedule 40 DWV, and 1-1/2 inch or 2 inch copper DWV, when the caulking gasket is swapped for the correct one. As supplied it is set up for 2 inch Schedule 40 DWV.
3) Does this Oatey drain fit a preformed fiberglass or acrylic shower base?
That is what it is built for. The 42080 is intended for preformed shower stall bases, and the drain body seals to the base with a fiber and rubber washer rather than sealant. Tighten it down from the top side of the pan.
4) Do I need a special tool to tighten this No-Calk shower drain?
No, the wrench comes in the box. The 42080 includes a drain tightening wrench for compressing the gasket from above the pan, so there is nothing extra to buy to make up the joint.
5) Is the strainer on the Oatey 42080 real brass or a plated plastic?
It is a polished brass strainer with Oatey's Ultrashine finish, sitting on a PVC drain body. So the visible ring in the pan is brass; the part glued or gasketed to the pipe is plastic.
