1) What roof pitch can the Oatey No-Calk 2 inch flashing be installed on?
Up to a 45 degree pitch. The flashing slides over the vent pipe and the collar seals against the pipe across that range, so it covers everything from a low-slope shingle roof up to a steep 12/12. Past 45 degrees it is out of range.
2) Can I use this Oatey thermoplastic flashing on a hot-mopped or built-up roof?
No. The 11909 thermoplastic base is not for hot-mopped or built-up roofs. The hot asphalt will damage the plastic. For a built-up or torch-down assembly you want a metal-base flashing instead. This one is meant for shingle and comparable steep-slope roofs.
3) Is the Oatey No-Calk flashing rated for a hot vent, like a Type B gas vent?
It carries a 180 degree F continuous heat rating and is approved for Type B installations. That covers a Type B gas vent run through the roof. It is a heat ceiling, not a flue-gas rating, so anything running hotter than 180 F continuous is outside what this base is rated for.
4) How much roof deck does the Oatey 11909 flashing base cover?
The base measures 9.25 x 13 inches. That is the footprint you need clear around the stack, and it governs how the shingle courses lap it, the lower edge sits on top of the shingles below and the upper portion tucks under the course above.
5) Can I paint the Oatey roof flashing to match my shingles?
No, and this is the most common way these get ruined. Paint and petroleum based products, roof cement and tar included, attack the plastic base and the rubber collar. The base comes black and is made non-fading and non-cracking so it holds that color on its own. Leave it alone and it will weather fine.
6) Do I need to caulk around the Oatey 11909 vent pipe flashing?
No. The No-Calk design seals with a rubber collar that grips the vent pipe as the flashing slides down over it, which is the whole point of the name. Adding roof cement or caulk at the collar is actually counterproductive here, petroleum based products degrade the collar and the plastic base.
