1) What size vent pipe does the Oatey 11908 roof flashing fit?
The 11908 No-Calk flashing is sized for 1-1/4 inch to 1-1/2 inch vent pipe. The collar slides down over the pipe and seals against it, so measure the pipe itself, not the hole in the deck. Anything larger than 1-1/2 inch needs a different base size.
2) Will this Oatey flashing work on a steep pitched roof?
Up to a 45 degree pitch. The 11908 base is made to slide over the vent pipe on roofs pitched to 45 degrees; beyond that you need a flashing built for steeper slope.
3) Can I use the Oatey 11908 No-Calk flashing on a hot-mopped or built-up roof?
No. The 11908 is specifically not for hot-mopped or built-up roofs. The rigid thermoplastic base won't take that application. For a hot-mopped or BUR assembly, use a metal-base roof flashing instead.
4) Can this Oatey flashing be used over a Type B gas vent?
Yes. The 11908 is rated for 180 degrees F continuous heat and approved for Type B installations, which is what lets it go over a B-vent rather than only a plumbing DWV stack.
5) How much roof deck does the Oatey 11908 base cover, and how much shingle overlap do I need to plan?
The base measures 9.25 by 13 inches. That is the footprint you shingle over on the upslope side and around the flanks, with the lower flange lapping over the course below. Lay out your courses so the full 13 inch dimension sits within the shingle field.
6) Do I need to caulk around the collar on an Oatey No-Calk flashing?
No, that's the point of the No-Calk design. The sealing collar grips the pipe on its own, so no sealant bead is required at the pipe. In fact, keep paint and petroleum based products off the plastic base and the rubber collar entirely, since they degrade both.
7) Will the black plastic base on this Oatey roof flashing fade or crack in the sun?
The base is rigid black thermoplastic described as non-fading and non-cracking, and the sealing collar is non-fading as well. For property managers replacing flashings across a roof, that black finish is the only color offered on the 11908.
