OATEY 78012 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Does the Oatey 78012 roof drain come with the strainer dome, or is that ordered separately?
The plastic dome strainer is included with the 78012. You get the PVC drain body and the dome together, so nothing extra is needed to keep leaves and debris out of the leader.
2) Is a PVC roof drain with a plastic dome the right choice, or should I use cast iron?
A PVC body with a plastic dome, like the Oatey 78012, suits small residential and light commercial roofs, decks and canopies draining into a 2 inch PVC leader. It will not carry foot traffic or take the abuse a cast iron drain with a metal dome handles on a trafficked commercial roof. For a roof where maintenance crews walk the drain area, or where the spec calls for a cast body, go cast iron instead.
3) What is the manufacturer part number for the Oatey 2 inch PVC roof drain with plastic dome?
The part number is 78012, from Oatey. That is the 2 inch PVC roof drain supplied with the plastic dome strainer. Quote that number when you are matching drains already installed on a building so every roof outlet takes the same dome.
4) How much does the Oatey 78012 2 inch roof drain weigh?
Listed weight is 5.75 lbs for the 78012, drain body and dome together. Light enough to carry up a ladder and set by hand, which is part of why PVC gets used on small roof and deck drains instead of cast iron.
