OATEY 78016 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What pipe size does the Oatey 78016 roof drain connect to?
The Oatey 78016 is a 6 inch PVC roof drain, so it mates to 6 inch PVC pipe. If your leader is 3 or 4 inch, this is the wrong drain body for the run.
2) Does the Oatey 78016 roof drain come with a dome strainer or do I have to buy one separately?
The plastic dome is included with the 78016. You are not ordering the strainer as a separate line item to complete the drain.
3) Is the Oatey 78016 roof drain plastic or cast iron?
It's PVC with a plastic dome, not cast iron. That makes it a solvent-weld connection to PVC leader pipe rather than a caulked or no-hub joint, and it keeps the assembly light at 5.8 pounds for rooftop handling.
4) How much does a 6 inch Oatey PVC roof drain weigh for a rooftop hoist or single-man carry?
5.8 pounds for the 78016 complete with its dome. One person can carry several up a ladder, which is the practical argument for PVC over cast iron on a re-roof.
5) Where can I get the submittal or spec sheet for the Oatey 78016 roof drain?
Oatey publishes a spec sheet for the 78016, and it is linked from the product information for the drain. Use it for the submittal package when an architect wants the drain documented on a flat roof detail.
