OATEY 72043 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will the Oatey 72043 drain connect to 3 inch or 4 inch PVC pipe?
Both. The Oatey 72043 commercial drain is built to take either 3 inch or 4 inch PVC, so the same drain works whether the riser under the floor is 3 or 4 inch. The connection is PVC solvent-weld style, so it mates to PVC DWV pipe, not to cast iron or ABS.
2) Is the Oatey 72043 drain height adjustable after the rough-in is set?
Yes, it is an adjustable commercial drain, so the strainer assembly can be raised or lowered to meet the finished floor after the PVC riser is in place. That is what makes it workable on a tile or topping-slab pour where the final floor height is not exact at rough-in.
3) What size is the grate on the Oatey 72043 and what is it made of?
It is a 5 inch round brass grate, which is why the finish reads brass while the drain body itself is PVC. Brass holds up better than plastic under foot traffic and cart wheels in commercial spaces, and the strainer is the only metal part in the assembly.
4) What is the square ring included with the Oatey 72043 for?
The square ring ships with the drain and gives you a square trim collar around the 5 inch round brass grate. It lets the drain line up with square tile cuts or a square floor opening instead of forcing a round cut, which matters on a tiled commercial restroom or kitchen floor.
5) Does the Oatey 72043 come with a trap, or do I need to order one separately?
The 72043 is the drain assembly only, a PVC adjustable body with the 5 inch brass grate and square ring. Trapping is handled by separate pipe and fittings below the floor, so a P-trap in 3 or 4 inch PVC has to be ordered with it to complete the job.
