OATEY 72057 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will the Oatey 72057 general purpose drain connect to 3 inch or 4 inch PVC pipe?
Both. The Oatey 72057 is built to take either a 3 inch or a 4 inch PVC connection, and the body and connection are PVC, so it solvent welds to standard PVC DWV pipe. If your rough-in is ABS or cast iron, this is not the right drain body.
2) Can I use the Oatey 72057 as a shower drain?
It is a general purpose floor drain, not a shower drain. There is no clamping ring or membrane flange called out, so for a tiled shower or any waterproofed floor you want a dedicated shower drain with a clamping collar instead. Use the 72057 where you need a simple PVC floor drain with a 5 inch grate over a 3 inch or 4 inch line.
3) Is the grate on the Oatey 72057 metal or plastic?
The drain body is PVC and the 5 inch grate is nickel finished, so you get a metal looking face over a plastic body. For a laundry room, utility room, or mechanical room floor where the grate gets stepped on, that combination holds up better than an all plastic strainer.
4) What part number do I order for the Oatey 3 inch or 4 inch PVC drain with the nickel grate?
Oatey part number 72057. One configuration, no handing or finish choices to specify, and the 5 inch nickel grate ships with it.
5) How much does the Oatey 72057 floor drain weigh?
2.2 pounds, with a shipping volume of 0.147. Light enough that a case of them is no problem to carry for a multi unit rough-in, and the weight is almost all in the nickel grate rather than the PVC body.
