OATEY 72077 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Does the Oatey 72077 drain connect to 3 inch or 4 inch PVC pipe?
Both. The Oatey 72077 general purpose drain has a PVC body that takes either 3 inch or 4 inch pipe, so you can use it on either rough-in without changing the drain. Solvent weld it to the pipe size you actually have below the floor.
2) What size grate comes on the Oatey 72077 floor drain?
It ships with a 5 inch nickel bronze grate and a square ring. That is the finished surface you will see once the floor goes down, so the visible opening is the 5 inch round grate seated in the square ring frame.
3) Is the grate on the Oatey 72077 plastic or metal?
Metal. The body is PVC, but the grate is nickel bronze, which is what holds up to foot traffic and mop carts better than a plastic strainer. That combination is common for utility rooms, laundry areas, and general purpose floor drains where you want a serviceable top but a plastic body below the slab.
4) Can I order the Oatey 72077 in a different grate finish or size?
No. The 72077 is a single configuration: PVC body for 3 inch or 4 inch pipe, 5 inch nickel bronze grate, square ring. There are no finish or size options to specify on the order, so the part number alone gets you the right item.
5) Is the Oatey 72077 floor drain heavy enough to be a problem for a single-person install?
No. The 72077 weighs about 0.333 lb and takes up roughly 0.016 cubic feet, so it is a one-hand part. The install work is in the pipe connection and setting the grate flush with finished floor, not in handling the drain itself.
