OATEY 72167 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Does the Oatey 72167 drain fit 3 inch or 4 inch PVC pipe?
Both. The Oatey 72167 general purpose drain body is made to take either a 3 inch or a 4 inch PVC connection, so one part covers the two common DWV sizes you'll run into on a floor or shower rough-in. The body is PVC, so it solvent welds to PVC DWV pipe.
2) Is the Oatey 72167 a PVC drain body or cast iron?
PVC. If your rough-in is cast iron or you need a no-hub cast iron body, this is the wrong part, and you would want a cast iron drain instead. For a PVC DWV system, the 72167 body solvent welds straight in at 3 or 4 inches.
3) What size grate comes on the Oatey 72167 general purpose drain?
It ships with a 6 inch nickel bronze grate and a round ring. That is the strainer you install with, so there is no separate grate to order to finish the drain.
4) Is the grate on the Oatey 72167 nickel bronze or plastic?
Nickel bronze, on a round ring. That is the finish specifiers usually call for in commercial and multi-family floor drains where the grate is walked on and visible, rather than a plastic strainer.
5) Can I use the Oatey 72167 as a general purpose floor drain in a mechanical or utility room?
That is what it is built for. It's a general purpose drain, meaning a floor or area drain rather than a fixture-specific shower or roof drain, with a 6 inch nickel bronze grate for foot traffic and a PVC body tied into 3 or 4 inch PVC waste.
6) What is the part number to order the Oatey 3 inch or 4 inch PVC drain with the 6 inch nickel bronze grate?
Oatey 72167. There is a single configuration, so there is no finish or size option to specify when you order.
