OATEY 72169 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) How does the Oatey 72169 general purpose drain connect to the drain line?
The 72169 has a 4 inch PVC hub base, so it solvent welds over the outside of 4 inch PVC pipe. Connection type is PVC, so you are gluing it, not threading or caulking it. If your line is cast iron or ABS, this is not the drain body to use.
2) What size grate comes on the Oatey 72169 drain, and what finish is it?
It ships with a 6 inch round nickel grate and a round ring. The grate is included, so you are not ordering a strainer separately to complete the assembly.
3) Will a 6 inch round grate fit the rough opening I already cut for a floor drain?
Plan the opening around the 6 inch round grate and ring, with a 4 inch hub below it for the pipe connection. The ring is round, not square, so a square tile cut or square grate pocket will leave a gap you have to grout or patch.
4) How heavy is the Oatey 72169 drain for shipping and handling on site?
About 4 pounds, with a listed volume of 0.147. It is a one-hand carry, which is typical for a PVC-bodied drain versus a cast iron equivalent of the same size.
