OATEY 72069 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Is the Oatey 72069 a shower drain or a general purpose floor drain?
It is a general purpose drain, meant for floor drainage applications like utility rooms, laundry areas and mechanical spaces where you want a PVC body tied into 4 inch DWV. It is not a clamping-ring shower pan drain, so if you are setting a waterproof membrane or a shower liner, use a membrane clamp drain instead.
2) Is the grate on the Oatey 72069 metal or plastic?
The strainer is nickel, so you get a metal grate face over a PVC body. That matters in traffic areas where a plastic grate gets scuffed or cracked by carts and foot traffic.
3) Do I need to buy the strainer separately for the Oatey 72069?
No. The 72069 ships as a complete drain, body plus round ring plus the 5 inch nickel grate. All you add on the job is the 4 inch PVC pipe, primer and solvent cement for the hub joint.
4) What is the Oatey part number for the 4 inch PVC drain with the 5 inch nickel grate?
Order it as Oatey 72069. That number covers the complete assembly: 4 inch PVC hub base, round ring and 5 inch nickel grate.
