OATEY 82069 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What pipe does the Oatey 82069 general purpose drain connect to?
The 82069 has a 4 inch ABS hub base, so it takes 4 inch ABS pipe solvent welded into the hub. The body is ABS, so use ABS cement, not PVC cement, and don't plan on cementing it to PVC pipe without a proper transition.
2) How big is the grate on the Oatey 82069 drain?
It comes with a 5 inch round nickel grate held by a round ring. That gives you a 5 inch visible face, so the opening cut in the finished floor or pan needs to leave room for that diameter to sit flat.
3) Can I use the Oatey 82069 drain in a utility room or laundry floor instead of a shower?
Yes, it's built as a general purpose floor drain rather than a shower pan drain, so laundry rooms, utility rooms, and mechanical spaces piped in 4 inch ABS are the use it's intended for. For a tiled or lead shower pan you want a dedicated shower drain with a clamping ring and weep holes instead.
