OATEY 82059 4 In. ABS Hub Base General Purpose Drain w/ 5 In. NI Grate

It is a general purpose floor drain, not a shower pan drain. There is no clamping ring or membrane flange in the assembly, so it is not meant to seal to a shower liner. Use it for utility floors, mechanical rooms and similar drainage; for a tiled or lined shower, pick a shower drain with a clamping collar.

No. The 82059 body is ABS and is made to be solvent welded to ABS pipe. ABS cement and PVC cement are not interchangeable, so joining it to PVC needs a mechanical transition coupling rather than glue. If the whole system is PVC, order a PVC-bodied drain instead.

Order it as Oatey 82059. The UPC on the carton is 038753820590. That number covers the complete assembly, body and grate together, so there is no separate grate line item to add.

Nickel bronze, as supplied on the 82059, is the usual choice where the grate is visible and walked on, such as restrooms, janitor closets and kitchens. It holds up to foot traffic and cleaning chemicals better than a plastic strainer. If the drain is hidden under a mechanical unit or in a crawl space, a plain plastic grate would do the same job for less.

The 82059 weighs 4 pounds complete with the grate, so it is handled and set by one person. The weight is almost all in the nickel bronze grate; the ABS body itself is light.
