OATEY 82079 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What pipe size does the Oatey 82079 general purpose drain connect to?
The Oatey 82079 has a 4 inch ABS hub base, so it takes 4 inch ABS pipe solvent welded into the hub. Since the base is ABS, use ABS cement (or an approved ABS to PVC transition if the rest of your run is PVC).
2) Does the Oatey 82079 drain include a trap?
No. The 82079 is a drain body with a 4 inch ABS hub base, grate, and square ring only. The trap is a separate fitting on the line below it, so a P-trap has to be ordered and installed separately to meet code on a floor drain.
3) Is the Oatey 82079 drain grate metal or plastic?
Metal. The strainer is nickel, while the base body is ABS. That pairing is common on general purpose floor drains: plastic body for the pipe connection, metal grate where feet, carts, and mops hit it.
4) I need to order an Oatey floor drain for a 4 inch ABS line, what is the part number?
Order Oatey 82079. It's the 4 inch ABS hub base general purpose drain supplied with the 5 inch nickel grate and square ring, sold as a single model with no finish or size options to specify.
5) What is the square ring on the 82079 drain for?
The 82079 ships with a square ring in addition to the 5 inch nickel grate. It's the trim ring that frames the strainer at the finished floor, giving a square border around the round grate instead of a bare plastic edge.
