OATEY 82159 4" ABS Hub Base General Purpose Drain w/ 6" NI Grate

The Oatey 82159 has a 4 inch ABS hub base, so it takes 4 inch ABS pipe solvent welded into the hub. It is a hub connection, not a no-hub or threaded outlet, so plan the rough-in for a spigot end of 4 inch ABS going up into the base.

No. The 82159 base is ABS, and ABS hubs are solvent welded with ABS cement to ABS pipe. If your waste line is PVC you need a PVC-bodied drain, or a listed transition coupling at the connection. Mixing ABS cement and PVC pipe is not an acceptable joint.

The base is ABS plastic and the grate is nickel bronze. That pairing is common on general purpose floor drains: the plastic body keeps cost and weight down while the metal strainer takes foot traffic, cart wheels, and mop handles without cracking. Total weight is about 4 pounds.

General purpose is the utility-room drain: laundry rooms, mechanical and boiler rooms, janitor closets, storage areas, garages. It handles incidental spillage and equipment discharge rather than continuous process flow. For a shower or a membrane floor you want a drain with a clamping collar and weep holes instead, and for heavy wash-down or vehicle bays you want a cast iron body.

Yes. This is a drain body and grate only, not a trapped assembly. The 4 inch ABS hub drops onto your piping, and the trap plus any required trap primer connection is separate work below the floor. Size and set the trap so the drain does not dry out in a room that sees little use.

The 82159 is a fixed hub base drain with a 6 inch nickel bronze grate, not a two-piece adjustable strainer assembly. Set the body at finished floor height when you rough in, because there is no post-pour height adjustment to fall back on.

One drain: the 4 inch ABS hub base together with the 6 inch nickel bronze grate, roughly 4 pounds total. Solvent cement, the trap, and any trap primer line are bought separately.
