OATEY 82068 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Can I use the Oatey 82068 as a shower drain?
It is a general purpose drain, not a shower pan drain. There is no clamping ring or membrane flange in the assembly, just the 4 inch ABS pipe base, round ring, and 5 inch NI grate. For a tiled shower over a waterproofing membrane you want a shower pan drain with a clamping collar and weep holes instead.
2) Does the Oatey 82068 come with the grate, or is that ordered separately?
Grate and ring are included. The 82068 ships as a complete general purpose drain: 4 inch ABS pipe base, round ring, and the 5 inch NI grate. You supply the 4 inch ABS pipe and solvent cement.
3) How heavy is the Oatey 82068 drain assembly for shipping and handling on site?
The assembled 82068 drain weighs about 4 pounds, with a shipping volume of 0.147. One person handles it easily, and on a multi-unit job you can carry a stack of them to the rough-in without a cart.
