OATEY 72058 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What size pipe does the Oatey 72058 general purpose drain connect to?
The Oatey 72058 has a 4 inch PVC pipe base, so it solvent welds to 4 inch PVC DWV pipe. Both the base and the connection are PVC, so you are using standard PVC primer and cement, not a rubber gasket or caulked joint.
2) Can I use the Oatey 72058 as a floor drain in a utility or laundry room?
That is what a general purpose drain is for. The 72058 is a PVC bodied floor drain with a 5 inch strainer, intended for general floor drainage where the waste line is 4 inch PVC, such as laundry rooms, utility areas and mechanical spaces. It is a drain body and grate only, so the trap and any trap primer connection are separate items on your order.
3) How big is the grate on the Oatey 72058 drain?
It comes with a 5 inch round nickel finish grate over a 4 inch PVC body. That means the visible strainer covers a wider footprint than the pipe itself, which helps cover the slab or deck opening around the drain body.
4) What part number do I order for the Oatey 4 inch PVC drain with the 5 inch nickel grate?
Order Oatey model 72058. That single manufacturer part number covers the complete assembly, the 4 inch PVC pipe base drain and the 5 inch nickel grate together.
5) How much does the Oatey 72058 drain weigh for shipping and handling on site?
It is listed at 4 pounds with a shipping volume of 0.147, so it is a one hand carry item and easy to stage in quantity for a multi unit job.
