OATEY 72147 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Does the Oatey 72147 general purpose drain connect to 3 inch or 4 inch PVC pipe?
Both. The 72147 drain body is PVC and takes either 3 inch or 4 inch pipe, so one part covers the two most common DWV sizes you'd run under a floor. The grate sits on top at 6 inches with a square ring.
2) What grate comes with the Oatey 72147 drain, and is it included or ordered separately?
The 6 inch nickel bronze grate and the square ring ship as part of the 72147 assembly, along with the PVC drain body. You are not buying the body and the top separately.
3) Is the Oatey 72147 a PVC drain or a cast iron one?
It is a PVC body drain with a bronze grate. That means it solvent welds into a PVC DWV line rather than needing a caulked or no-hub cast iron connection, which is why it shows up on residential and light commercial floor work rather than heavy traffic industrial slabs.
4) What is the Oatey part number for the 3 or 4 inch PVC general purpose drain with the 6 inch bronze grate?
Oatey 72147. That is the manufacturer part number to quote or reorder against, and it covers the PVC body, the 6 inch bronze grate and the square ring as one item.
5) How heavy is the Oatey 72147 drain assembly?
The complete 72147 assembly weighs 4 pounds, most of that in the 6 inch bronze grate rather than the PVC body. Light enough to set by hand while the pipe is being glued.
