OATEY 72207 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Does the Oatey 72207 general purpose drain connect to 3 inch or 4 inch pipe?
Both. The Oatey 72207 PVC general purpose drain is built to take either 3 inch or 4 inch PVC, so you can use the same drain body whether the rough-in run is 3 or 4 inch. That is handy on remodels where you find a different size in the floor than the drawing called for.
2) Is a general purpose drain like the Oatey 72207 the right choice, or do I need a shower drain?
A general purpose drain is for floor drainage where there is no membrane to clamp, utility rooms, laundry areas, mechanical rooms, basements. The 72207 takes 3 or 4 inch PVC and finishes with a 6 inch chrome grate. If you are draining a tiled shower or any floor with a waterproofing membrane, you want a shower drain with a clamping ring instead, not this one.
3) What size grate comes with the Oatey 72207 drain?
It ships with a 6 inch chrome grate and a square ring. So the drain arrives complete with the finished top surface, no separate strainer purchase needed.
4) Is the Oatey 72207 drain body plastic or metal?
The body is PVC, with the grate in chrome. That means it solvent welds into PVC drain lines rather than needing a caulked or threaded metal connection, and it will not corrode in a wet floor application.
5) What is the exact part number and UPC for the Oatey general purpose drain with the 6 inch chrome grate?
Order it as Oatey 72207. The UPC on the carton is 038753722078. Oatey also publishes a 72207 spec sheet if you need the submittal for a plan review.
6) How heavy is the Oatey 72207 drain, and does it ship as one piece?
Listed product weight is 4 pounds with a volume of 0.147, which covers the PVC body, the 6 inch chrome grate and the square ring together as one assembly. Light enough to stock several for a multi-unit rough-in without freight concerns.
