OATEY 72107 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Does the Oatey 72107 drain connect to 3 inch or 4 inch PVC pipe?
Both. The Oatey 72107 general purpose drain is built to take either 3 inch or 4 inch PVC, so one part covers the two most common DWV branch sizes on a floor drain rough-in. It is a solvent weld PVC connection, meaning you cement it to PVC DWV pipe rather than threading or gasketing it.
2) Does the Oatey 72107 general purpose drain include a trap?
No trap is part of it. The 72107 is the drain body, 5 inch chrome grate and square ring only. You still need a P-trap below it, plus the trap arm to the branch line, and in a space that dries out you will want a trap primer or a trap seal device to keep the seal from evaporating.
3) What size is the grate on the Oatey 72107 floor drain?
It comes with a 5 inch round grate in chrome, set in a square ring. That 5 inch face is what you see once the pour or the tile is finished, so lay out your tile cuts around a 5 inch opening.
4) Is the Oatey 72107 drain body plastic or metal?
The body is PVC, with only the grate finished in chrome. PVC will not corrode from standing water or common floor cleaners, which is why these get used in utility rooms, laundry areas and mechanical spaces. If your spec calls for a cast iron or all metal drain body, this is not that part.
5) How heavy is the Oatey 72107 drain for a shipment or a parts list?
It comes in at 4 pounds, light enough that a case of them is easy to carry to a job site. Useful if you are standardizing floor drains across a property and pulling several at once.
