OATEY 72137 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will the Oatey 72137 drain connect to 3 inch or 4 inch PVC pipe?
Both. The Oatey 72137 general purpose drain has a PVC base sized for 3 inch to 4 inch pipe, so the same body takes either size DWV line. The connection is PVC to PVC, so it solvent welds to the pipe rather than threading on.
2) Is the grate on the Oatey 72137 metal or plastic?
The body is PVC and the 6 inch grate is brass, so you get a plastic drain base with a metal top surface that takes foot traffic and mop contact. If you need an all-plastic drain top, the 72137 is not it.
3) What does the round ring on the Oatey 72137 drain do?
The 72137 ships with a round adjustable ring that carries the 6 inch brass grate, letting you set the grate height to the finished floor over the PVC drain base. That is what makes it workable in a mud set or poured floor where the final surface level is not fixed when the drain body goes in.
4) Is a 6 inch brass grate drain OK for a commercial mop room or utility area floor?
That is the use case for the 72137. It is a general purpose floor drain, not a shower or clamping-ring roof drain, with a 6 inch brass grate and a PVC base for 3 or 4 inch DWV pipe. For a membrane floor needing a clamping ring and weep holes, you want a shower pan drain instead.
5) What is the Oatey part number for the 3 or 4 inch PVC drain with the 6 inch brass grate?
Oatey 72137. That one number covers the PVC drain base, the round ring and the 6 inch brass grate as a single assembly.
6) How much does the Oatey 72137 floor drain weigh?
About 4 pounds complete, with a shipping volume of 0.147 cubic feet. Light enough to carry a case of them to the floor by hand.
