OATEY 72337 3" or 4" PVC General Purpose Pipe Fit Drain w/ 6" Cast NI Grate & Round Top

Both. The Oatey 72337 is a pipe fit drain body that takes either 3 inch or 4 inch PVC, so you can use it on a 3 inch branch or a 4 inch line without ordering a different body. The connection is solvent weld PVC, so you are gluing it onto the pipe rather than threading it.

The strainer is a 6 inch round cast nickel bronze grate on a round top. That gives you a 6 inch finished opening at floor level, which is the dimension to check against your tile layout or slab pour before you set the body.

A general purpose pipe fit drain like the Oatey 72337 glues straight onto 3 inch or 4 inch PVC and drains an open floor area, typically a concrete slab in a mechanical room, garage, laundry, or storage area. It has no membrane clamping ring and no weep system, so it is not the drain for a tiled shower pan or any waterproofed membrane floor. If the floor has a pan liner or hot mop, you need a clamping ring drain instead.

The 72337 body is PVC and is made to be solvent welded to PVC pipe. PVC cement will not bond to ABS, and the body is not sized to caulk into a cast iron hub, so for those systems you need the matching ABS version of the drain or a transition fitting ahead of the drain.

Metal. The body is PVC but the strainer is cast nickel bronze, so the part that takes foot traffic, carts, and mop handles is cast metal rather than plastic. That combination is why these get specified for utility rooms, janitor closets, and back-of-house areas where a plastic grate would get walked flat.

Order Oatey 72337. It is a single configuration, not a series with options to specify, so the one number covers the PVC body, the round top, and the 6 inch cast nickel bronze grate.

No trap is included. The 72337 is a drain body and grate that fits onto 3 inch or 4 inch PVC; the P-trap and any trap primer connection are separate items you plumb below it. Plan for a trap and, in slab applications where the floor drain sees little use, a primer line to keep the seal from drying out.

The 72337 ships at about 4 pounds, most of that in the cast nickel bronze grate. Light enough to set by hand on a slab rough-in, and worth knowing if you are pulling a dozen for a multi-family rough-in.
