OATEY 72358 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) How big is the grate on the Oatey 72358, and what is it made of?
It comes with an 8 inch cast grate on a round top. That 8 inch face is what you see in the finished floor, so lay out your opening and any tile cut around an 8 inch round, not around the 4 inch pipe size.
2) Is the Oatey 72358 a shower drain or a general purpose floor drain?
General purpose. The 72358 is a pipe-fit floor drain body with a round 8 inch cast grate, the sort used for utility rooms, mechanical rooms, laundry areas and similar floor drainage on a 4 inch PVC line. It is not sold as a shower pan drain with a clamping ring and membrane flange.
3) How much does the Oatey 72358 drain weigh?
About 5.8 pounds, most of that in the cast grate. That matters mainly for the grate itself holding up under foot and cart traffic rather than for handling, since the PVC body is light.
